Babson College invites nominations and applications for the inaugural appointment of the Steven C. and Carmella R. Kletjian Foundation Distinguished Professor of Management in Global Surgery and Health.
The Steven C. and Carmella R. Kletjian Foundation has made a series of extraordinary gifts to build a network of scholars, practitioners, and innovators focused on the need to solve the complex problem of access to safe and effective surgical care worldwide as a key element of improving public health. The foundation has endowed Professorships at the Harvard Medical School, the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and at Babson College. Babson’s role in the collaborative network is to bring the transformative power of entrepreneurship to the field of Global Surgery and Health. We intend to address issues of scaling up surgical services in underserved areas worldwide, developing appropriate technologies and other innovations in low-resource countries, and the training of managers and health care providers around the world.
The successful candidate will have an outstanding record of scholarly and practical experience in bringing health care solutions to people around the world. Whether the base academic discipline comes from Public Health, Health Care Management, Bioscience, Strategy, Operations Management, or Entrepreneurship, the Kletjian Professor will bring entrepreneurial skills to the health challenges of Global Surgery and Health. We seek a colleague who has shown a willingness to cross disciplinary boundaries and who can engage people successfully across cultures. The professor will be the key Babson College person in building the Kletjian Foundation network across institutions in the U.S. and abroad.
The successful candidate will hold the rank of Clinical Professor, Associate Professor or Professor (Tenured or Clinical Professor), with an appropriate terminal degree such as PhD or MD with a preference for candidates who also hold an MBA or MPH. The salary will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. Duties include teaching and research at the undergraduate, graduate, and/or executive levels, and professional service within the College and community. The Steven C. and Carmella R. Kletjian Foundation Distinguished Professor will be a leader of Babson College’s work in health care innovation and will be an important member of the team building Babson’s reputation for excellence in teaching and scholarship.
Position Requirements
We are looking for an accomplished teacher/scholar with:
• Passion about teaching and a proven track record of teaching excellence and innovative curriculum development;
• Depth in scholarly expertise that will add to the intellectual community of the College;
• Willingness to lead and collaborate with faculty from multiple disciplines to design and teach courses in an integrated, cross-disciplinary context;
• Curiosity about and facility with technology and the possibility of teaching in a blended/online environment;
• Skills to navigate and embrace complexity, ambiguity, and change;
• Experience in teaching, service, and scholarship in ways that will enhance the college’s commitment to diversity and inclusion; and
• Engagement as a helpful colleague who is committed to the success of Babson College.
